Songwriters on Songwriting on Amazon
Hey all,
Welcome to this new series – where I recommend musical books that I found to be very inspiring.
If you are an aspiring songwriter, and even if you’re not but you love music – Songwriters on Songwriting is a book that’s a must-have in my opinion – and it’s the best book about songwriting that I have read. You’re in for a treat with this huge book!
How it’s written? Well, it’s made of in-depth interviews with the world’s greatest songwriters (IMHO – by a very good interviewer who asks great questions) about the art of songwriting.
Some of these interviews are incredibly vast (up to about 30 pages) – so it’s not an everyday magazine interview where an artist talks about many topics – it’s only about how he/she comes up with songs ideas, including creation stories about many hits that you’ll know.
The best thing about this book is the artists that are included among the 50+ interviews – I cannot think of many huge songwriters of our era who were not interviewed to it.
The book includes interviews with Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Randy Newman, Tom Petty, Carlos Santana, Madonna, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) Jackson Browne and many other greats.
Whenever I have a few spare minutes I love to just open it – I always get a new insight, idea, or just the feeling of admiration – for how these great songs came through these people – and how these songs came to be.
Highly recommended!
