Weekly SongVlog – “A Song That Touched Me” (Tom Petty – Wildflowers)

4 minutes read

Hey all,

Letting you know that from now on I will be uploading a weekly “SongVlog” about the song that touched my heart this week. (A laid-back acoustic cover + 200-300 words on… feelings)

It will go up every week on my YouTube channel, and sometimes here as well.

While this won’t be interesting to a lot of you, I hope that many of you will indeed find it interesting and will want to walk with me in this beautiful journey of life.

I am going completely raw and full on with what I feel which is something that I have never done before – especially not on the internet. The first one is attached here.

The idea is that it’s recommended to listen to the song while you’re reading it.

*The reading entry is attached below the video.

Cheers!

I am so happy that I choose to do this.

Weekly blogging through a song that touched me this week. Full on, no barriers.

So, here’s the song that got in my heart this week. Tom Petty – Wildflowers.

A modern “Freebird”.

Exactly a month ago, my life was at a very different place.

Seemed like we were on the way to make another move towards “settling down”, and I was about to move to Amsterdam, close to my girlfriend.

But she came to visit in Australia, and things took a different route.

The move to The Netherlands is not going to happen, as we realized that some paths are better be crossed just for a while, and that while is over now.

A week after we parted, I opened up a huge book that I have – called “Songwriters on Songwriting”.

It’s filled with dozens of interviews with the songwriters that I appreciate the most.

One of them is Tom Petty – a true blonde icon of American culture for me.

The interview kept mentioning his new album and song called Wildflowers. While usually I’m reluctant to listen to new songs from my classic rock heroes – I said “alright, let’s give it a listen on YouTube”.

I felt like it was godsend – as I always feel when one of those surprising songs come across my ears.

The first chords, strummed high on the guitar with a capo – immediately took my attention.

The entire song was just beautiful as well.

But it wasn’t until a few minutes later that I decided to open the lyrics.

And then – I was just blown away by how so many of the lines seemed like they were written both for me, and for my beloved ex-lover – exactly for right now, as we take on new directions in life.

I wish he was still alive so he could maybe feel how these lines just took upon a new meaning for another man, at a very distant point in the world.

“You belong among the wildflowers”

That’s exactly where I feel that I belong now. And shout out to Freebird.

“Run away, find you a lover”

“Go away, somewhere all bright and new.”

With a wink towards Byron Bay / the other exotic and bright destinations I have in mind.

“Run away, let your heart be your guide”

“You belong with your love on your arm”

“You belong somewhere you feel free”.

Cheers friends.

I hope this may have struck a chord with some of you and your current positions in this awesome life this week.

Lyrics:
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free
